Some textiles survive because museums preserve them.
Others survive because people continue to wear them.
This scarf is made from tussar silk, one of India's oldest and rarest silks. Unlike the smooth, glossy silk most of us know, tussar comes from wild silkworms that live in the forests of eastern India, feeding on native trees. For thousands of years, communities have gathered and woven this naturally textured fibre into cloth prized for its soft matte lustre, strength and beautiful drape.
Its character lies in its imperfections. Every thread carries subtle variations that could never be replicated by machine.
